Un peu d’histoire…

« C’est le monde qui vient se faire peindre chez moi » - Gustave Courbet

Courbet a peint ce tableau en 1854 ou 1855.

« C’est ma manière de voir la société dans ses intérêts et ses passions » dit-il à propos de cette œuvre.

Le tableau est divisé en deux parties : à gauche, tous les hommes qui représentent le monde de la production, de l’économie, de l’organisation de la société, des affaires (un banquier, un curé, un politicien, un journaliste, un homme d’affaires, …) ; à droite le monde de l’art, de la création, des muses, des mécènes (un poète célèbre Baudelaire, le philosophe Proudhon, la sœur du peintre,…).

Au centre on peut voir divers souvenirs du peintre et son modèle/muse. Ce tableau représente sa perception de la place centrale que l’artiste aurait du avoir dans la société de son époque, et comme il le dit « d’un socialisme humanitaire ». Ce tableau est considéré comme un manifeste.

« It’s my way to see the society in its interest and passions » he said about this painting

The painting is divided in two parts: on the left, all the people who represent the world of production, economy, organisation of the society, business (a banker, a monk, a politician, a journalist, a business man…), on the right the world of art, creation, muses, supporters ( a famous poet Baudelaire, the  philosopher Proudhon, the painter sister,…)

In the middle one can see various memories of the painter, and his muse/model. This painting represents his perception of the central place an artist should have had in the society of its time and as he said “a humanitarian socialism”. This painting is considered as a manifest (patent).

作品分两个部分： 左面部分中的人物代表着社会的生产，经济，组织结构以及商业( 如一个银行家，一个和尚，一个政客，一个记者和一个商人等等) ，右面部分中的人物则代表着另外一个世界，他们是艺术家，发明者，收藏家以及他们的支持者( 著名诗人鲍德莱尔，哲学家普鲁东，画家的妹妹等等)

在画的中间，人们可以看到画家的不同的作品和他的模特。这部作品表现了他作为一名艺术家对当时主流社会所应有的领悟，正如他所说的“人类社会主义。这部作品被认为是一个宣言。
